About Notegeist

Those of you who are in the Erasables or Field Nuts Facebook groups probably know me, Gary Varner, from my long-term membership there. Additionally, from 2014-2016 I had the first Notegeist online shop running, which morphed into Papernery about a year in.

At the time, I was still working in corporate America so the shops were a labor of love, but became too time-consuming to work in the evenings and weekends combined with a full-time, demanding job.

I’m now retired from corporate life, so the time demands are much easier and thought it was time to get back to my love of sharing cool stationery stuff I find. I love providing ways for more people to embrace good writing tools and papers.

Newsletter

Approximately once a week, or a little slower, Notegeist produces a newsletter to the subscribers who signed up in the shop or via placing an order. Each issue may contain shop news, new products, stationery product reviews, or articles or information of interest to stationery lovers.

Selling to Notegeist

Got some spare stationery goods and prefer to sell in one batch? Want to save the hassles of a bunch of shipments? Then Notegeist’s buying program may work for you. Please read the FAQs below, and if interested, contact us.

We buy things like we carry in the shop now, or cool vintage or other stationery goods that fit in our model. But specifically, we’re very interested in these brands/products:

Blackwing Volumes - singles, dozen boxes, subscriber tubes

Retired Field Notes Quarterly Limited Editions - sealed packs only

Log+Jotter - single or release pairs, new, notebooks only

Dapper Notes - single, new, in original packaging only

One - Limits the hassle of selling off individually, which means doing transactions with a lot of people.

Two - Reduces effort of individually shipping a lot of packages over many trips to the post office to doing one package, one trip to ship to Notegeist.

Three - You get paid for all of it quickly via PayPal (with no fees subtracted).

Offers based on our periodically updated buy sheet (download here), which provides a guideline on items we’re interested in at prices we typically pay, but not necessarily the final offer. Final offer depends on current stock and needs.

Sellers pay for shipping (except for large lot buys where we may provide a shipping subsidy). Seller is responsible to get the goods to us and is responsible for loss or damage, thus insurance is at seller’s discretion.

Payment is via PayPal as Friends & Family and occurs after receipt and inspection of goods. This nearly always occurs by the evening of the day of receipt.

Condition must be as new, with original inserts if they exist. Exceptions vary, especially with vintage goods.

Sellers must pack and protect the goods well. Any goods not arriving as described, or damaged due to inadequate packing, will be excluded from the buy and return shipping taken out of the full payment.

Shipping

Currently, just USA, Canada, and recently added back most countries in Europe and the UK.

Unfortunately, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we currently don't ship to any other countries other than the above. We monitor USPS guidelines and restrictions, and will add back other countries as condition improve.

For USA, we offer economy and expedited options through UPS or US Postal Service.

For Canada, Europe, and the UK, customers can select economy (First Class Package International), Priority Mail, or UPS.

U.S. customers can get free shipping on orders of $100 or more.

Oh, I love free shipping when I buy stuff, but for an online shop with small margins it’s not a sustainable practice. Notegeist offers a lot of other perks (bonuses, freebies, etc.) plus competitive or low pricing, and we feel this more than compensates for not offering free shipping at a lower order threshold.

There are, however, other ways to score some random free shipping love:

Newsletter subscribers - Occassionally, they'll be a handful of free shipping coupons announced in the newsletter on a first seen, first ordered basis.

Customer Loyalty - We provide a free shipping coupon when repeat customers hit certain order milestones.

Featured Product - Sometimes we offer a certain product, or product bundling that will include free shipping for that order.

All rates are weight-based and customer-selectable, and rates are our commercial rates.

During the order process, customers can choose which rate/service they'd prefer, based on what's available for their order.

Don't we all miss those days of dependable estimated delivery dates! Due to Covid-19, all shipping systems are stressed and understaffed. Delays and weirdness are the new norm. We ask that customers (whether ordering from us or any other shop) be patient in these trying times. We're not seeing any loss or non-delivery problems, just delays and inaccurate tracking information for the most part.

Notegeist pledges to ship your order the next business day after you place it, doing our part to get your goodies into the delivery systems as quick as possible. After that, it's up to those systems.

Returns and Exchanges

Our policy is all sales are final, but if an item arrives damaged or is not as described, we will replace or refund. And obviously will do the same for lost shipments.

That said, we will do everything we can to make your satisfied with your purchase.

In most cases, we will send you a prepaid return label. Customers are responsible to pack the item to protect it in the return shipment, and return it in the same condition as received and unused.

Then perhaps you can trade or sell the item to a friend or within a Facebook group such as Erasables or Field Notes. Notegeist curates and selects stationery goodies we think will work well. The expectation is the customer reads the descriptions carefully and inspects the photos to make an informed purchase decision.
